The first season of The Traitors may have only just wrapped up, but BBC bosses are said to be so happy with its success they are already planning another season, this time with celebrities.

After plenty of twists, turns and backstabbing, the reality series came to a close on Thursday night, with Meryl Williams, Aaron Evans and Hannah Byczkowski managing to identify and banish all of the Traitors.

By doing so they walked away with a shared £101,050 prize pool.

Now the BBC is believed to be not only green lighting another season, but signing up famous faces.

A TV insider has claimed that the broadcaster is ‘thrilled’ with how much love there has been for the show, and that a celebrity version would be ‘a natural next step’.

‘Viewers will get to see different sides of some big names as they try to manipulate others or uncover the truth about fellow players,’ they told The Daily Mirror.

The celebrity version is believed to be planned as a charity edition for either Children in Need or Comic Relief.

Host Claudia Winkleman has already thrown a few names into the ring for people she’d love to see involved, including Victoria Coren, Kirsty Young, Adam Woodyatt, Stephen Fry and Alison Hammond.

While the BBC has not commented on the claims, there’s no doubt the series has been a massive success for them.

The opening episode did manage to attract a somewhat respectable 2.9 million viewers, but it’s now been seen by over five million viewers who have caught up on iPlayer, according to the broadcaster.

While there might be a bit of a wait to get to see ‘the most thrilling reality series of all time’, Claudia has confirmed she will be speaking to the final five, which included ultimate gameplayer Wilfred Webster who narrowly missed out on walking away with the entire prize money after he was unveiled as a Traitor in the final moments, on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday morning.

The host had previously said she was ‘obsessed’ with the concept of the game after first watching the Dutch version of the game.

BBC declined to comment when approached by Metro.co.uk.

The Traitors is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
