Ant & Dec’s Limitless Win is returning in the New Year with some twists to the formula for the second series.

Hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly will now be involved in the Take Two lifeline, which sees them give their own answer to potentially help a contestant with a nudge in the right direction.

Explaining the change, Dec revealed how producers pitched the change and the duo initially pushed back against the idea.

He said: ‘Before we went in to record series 2, we reviewed everything from series 1 and one of the things we reviewed was the lifelines.

‘We looked at Take Two — which lets you take two answers — and the producers said it could be really fun if the ladder took one answer from the contestants and one from you two as the hosts. Our first reaction was, “No, no, absolutely not, that’s too much pressure.” ‘

However, they were soon won over after trying some ‘sample questions’.

As quoted by Digital Spy, he added: ‘But then we kind of talked about it and played it a bit and eventually warmed to it and thought, “Actually, we’re quite good at the game sometimes. This could work!!”

‘We tried it out a few times with sample questions here in the office, got our bravery up and said, “Ok, we’ll do it.” ‘

They had some second thoughts once they got in the studio to record, and Dec refused to reveal how the duo did.

‘Yet, as soon as it came to the first record and that lifeline popped up, honestly my heart sank,’ he admitted. ‘I thought, “Oh God. Oh no. What have we done here? The pressure, the pressure!”

‘I’m not telling you how we got on. You’ll have to watch to see how we did!’

Ant explained while the duo don’t have too much time to stress or bicker over their answer, the 30 second time limit also means they don’t have long to ponder.

Meanwhile, the show is also making some other changes including music questions, as well as pre-recorded messages for contestants from their loved ones and celebrities.

Ant & Dec’s Limitless Win returns on January 7 at 8.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
