Bear Grylls encourages everyone to help each other in cost of living crisis: ‘Society should be there as a whole’-Robert Oliver-Entertainment – Metro

Bear Grylls has said everyone should come together as a whole to support those who are ‘down on their luck’ during the cost of living crisis.

The survival expert and wilderness adventurer, 48, rose to fame as the face of a number of TV programmes including Man vs. Wild and Get Out Alive.

Grylls, who was awarded an OBE by the late Queen Elizabeth II in her 2019 birthday honours list, recently attended Her Majesty’s funeral.

In a new interview, the Escape from Hell presenter reflected on the current cost-of-living crisis and those in the UK who are in need of help and support.

‘We all at times need a helping hand and the society as a whole should be there for when someone is maybe down on their luck,’ he said.

Speaking to the Big Issue, he continued: ‘Together we are always stronger.

‘I admire so much the Big Issue community that helps people at a vulnerable time in their lives.’

The interview comes after the recent release of Mind Fuel, Grylls’ new book that details ‘simple ways to build mental resilience’ in our day-to-day lives.

He said: ‘Inner battles can often be the hardest, but I’ve learnt so much about how to survive those inner battles by enduring the physical ones too,’ he said.

‘One of the biggest challenges in life was my parachute failure while in the military – I had a freefall accident in southern Africa and a canopy failed.’

‘I broke my back in three places. I had to spend 12 months in and out of rehabilitation. That time in hospital taught me the simple lesson that life is fragile.’

After becoming famous, he was named Chief Scout in 2009, taking over from Blue Peter presenter Peter Duncan, and remains in the position of 2022.

Grylls’ recent appearance on Louis Theroux Interviews was recently criticised for lacking interesting content, forcing Theroux to defend the episode.

It was also revealed that he fronted a secret expedition to Mount Everest in the Himalayas to recover the body of Spencer Matthews’ brother, Michael.
