Acclaimed actor Stephen Graham has shared the heartbreaking news of his mother’s death, revealing she died days before his recognition in the New Year Honours list was announced.
Last night, it was confirmed that the This Is England star had been made an OBE for services to drama.
In an Instagram post shared hours after the announcement, the 49-year-old uploaded several photos of himself with his late mother, ranging from when he was a baby to childhood.
‘A few days ago… this incredible, inspirational, warrior woman with the purest heart… my mum passed away,’ he wrote in the caption.
‘Her words as a child “no one is above you and no one is below you… all are equal” have remained with me throughout my life.
‘I feel so honoured and proud to share this with her…An OBE for both of us mum 🙏🏽🌸.’
