Bam Margera was ‘pronounced dead’ last month after suffering multiple seizures and battling pneumonia.

The 43-year-old TV personality and stuntman, whose real name is Brandon Cole, has reflected on his stay in hospital towards the end of 2022 after contracting Covid-19.

Reuniting with Jackass co-star Steve-O on Steve-O’s Wild Ride! podcast, he said: ‘I basically was pronounced dead on Elvis’ birthday, December 8th. I did not know that I had gnarly Covid.

‘My body was shutting down, and I went into four seizures, each one lasting 10 to 20 minutes, and on the fourth one, I bit my tongue so hard, it was nearly falling off.

‘It got so swollen and puffy, it wouldn’t fit in my mouth, and I was drinking the infected blood, which gave me pneumonia as well, so when the shaman took me to the hospital, I went into my fifth seizure, and I couldn’t breathe without a tube down my throat.’

When he was hospitalised, Bam didn’t understand the severity of his health issues, and he felt like he ‘blacked out’.

He added: ‘I woke up five days later thinking I was there for a couple of hours. They’re like, “Dude you’ve been here for nearly a week. We tried to take the tube out, and you weren’t breathing on your own.” ‘

Steve-O admitted seeing his friend on a ventilator in an intensive care unit was frightening, and while he joked about Bam’s being hospitalised in the middle of his tour, he added: ‘The important thing is that Bam’s not dead.’

Bam’s time in hospital came shortly after he recently completed his latest court-ordered stay in a rehabilitation facility.

He was reportedly receiving treatment at a centre in Florida back in September, but he was later revealed to have left the program.

Margera was said to have been announced as ‘missing’ from rehab earlier this year in June, which led to him being searched for, and subsequently found, by his parents.

He later explained that he was fearful of never seeing his son again if he stayed.
