If it’s in Mario Kart Tour it’ll almost certainly end up in Mario Kart 8 (pic: Nintendo)

The addition of Mario Kart Wii’s Rainbow Road to the mobile game suggests it’s going to be one of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s DLC tracks.

With the latest set of DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe having launched this past December, you can still look forward to an additional 24 tracks across three waves in 2023.

Given the release schedule so far, wave four will likely arrive during the spring, but Nintendo hasn’t so much as teased a release date or which tracks will be featured.

However, it may have already given away at least one of them and, oddly enough, it might be thanks to the Mario Kart Tour mobile game.

For those unfamiliar with the app, Mario Kart Tour receives new content every couple of weeks, adding new characters, karts, and tracks from previous Mario Kart games.

For its next update, coming next week, it will be getting the Rainbow Road track from 2008’s Mario Kart Wii. As such, fans believe this is a sign that the same course is coming to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

If it looks this good here imagine how it’s gonna look in Wave 6 of the Booster course DLC 👀

The chance of Rainbow Road Wii being in MK8DX just rose from 20% to 70%

Guys with 2 datamined wii tracks still yet to come to 8, this will be one. And for how it looks, take 3ds rainbow road. They completely redesigned the graphics for it. Let’s hope we get a banger music remix for 8 too!

At first, this may sound like grasping at straws, but there has been a pattern of Mario Kart Tour tracks later appearing in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s DLC.

For example, Mario Kart Wii’s Coconut Mall was part of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s first batch of DLC, and that released shortly after the track appeared in the mobile game.

The same can be said for the likes of Boo Lake from Mario Kart: Super Circuit and Peach Gardens from Mario Kart DS.

At the very least, the majority of the DLC tracks already featured in Mario Kart Tour, with the rest being added to the mobile game afterwards (with the exception of Mario Kart DS’ Shroom Ridge from wave one). So, this trend is unlikely to be a coincidence.

Whether this means Rainbow Road Wii will be part of wave four is another question entirely. However, it was also one of the tracks uncovered through a datamine last March, so it seems certain it’s going to appear at some point.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe does already contain four other Rainbow Roads – one original version and three from previous games – but each iteration features a unique layout and music.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available for Nintendo Switch.

Mario Kart Tour is available for iOS and Android devices.
