Happy Valley viewers believe that there is more than meets the eye when it comes to Ryan Cawood’s (Rhys Connah) burgeoning relationship with Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton).
Ryan’s grandmother Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire) was wounded when she learned he had been visiting his vile father behind bars, against her wishes.
But that isn’t the least of the no-nonsense copper’s worries, with episode 2 dropping the explosive revelation that Catherine’s sister Clare Cartwright (Siobahn Finneran) and boyfriend Neil Ackroyd (Con O’Neill) are accompanying Ryan to Sheffield prison.
In a heart-stopping sequence, Catherine, after trailing the threesome to the jail to confirm her worst fears, observed Clare in a coffee shop, waiting for the visit to end.
Calling her up, Catherine gave her ample opportunity to spill the truth but Clare continued lying through her teeth, with the sergeant eventually ambushing her sister in the cafe.

While it may seem like the ultimate betrayal, Happy Valley fans believe Ryan might have a trick up his sleeve and, rather than bonding with his dad, has a different motive for visiting Tommy in prison.
On a Happy Valley Facebook group, users have speculated that Ryan might be double-crossing Tommy to get revenge for Catherine as well as his mother Becky.
Catherine blames Tommy for Becky’s death as she died by suicide shortly after being brutally raped by him.

‘Maybe Ryan’s plotting his revenge on his Dad for all the hurt he’s seen Royce has caused over the years and Claire and Neil are in on it,’ one fan commented.
Several accounts also pointed out that Ryan said ‘revenge is a dish best served cold’ in the past episode, suggesting it could be a foreshadowing of events to come with Tommy.
‘I think Catherine’s grandson will kill his father… A dish served cold!,’ as one user put it.

Another added: ‘Ryan has grown up seeing the pain TLR has caused over the years and has confided in Clare and Neil he’s going to serve him some sort of revenge for it. They can’t tell Catherine because as her role she would have to report what he’s going to do.’
Many others agreed with this theory, saying that they are certain Clare wouldn’t be capable of that level of betrayal against her sister.
Siobahn teased what fans can expect from episode 3 on This Morning, warning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield there will be a lot to take in.
She said: ‘All I can really say about that is I think you’re gonna have to fasten your seatbelts for episode three.’
