Gordon Ramsay is back with another cooking show for us to feast our eyes on, along with the help of some special friends.

The series – which originally began in the US -sees a range of contestants compete on different floors of a three-storey kitchen as they try to impress judges the Hell’s Kitchen star, Paul Ainsworth and Nyesha Arrington.

Nyesha – who also judges the American series – has been featured on The Taste and Chopped Next Gen.

While Gordon and Paul go way back as the Masterchef star worked for Kitchen Nightmare host for six years.

As viewers prepare for the upcoming eight parter, here’s a little rundown on how the show works.

The eight-parter follows 12 aspiring chefs out through their paces as they whip up a series of delectable dishes in what the makers are billing as ‘the toughest and most epic cooking contest on TV.’

The kitchen is spread out over three floors, with each space testing the contestants’ culinary creativity, agility, flare, and expertise, as they vie to progress to the Next Level.

Throughout the course of the programme, the cooks will be mentored by experts Gordon, Paul, and Nyesha, as they compete to win a £100,000 prize.

‘At the beginning of my career, I started in the basement,’ said Gordon, 56.

‘Then you work up to this semi-decent kitchen, and then 20 years later, you build this state-of-the-art kitchen, and that’s how the idea for this was born.

‘They’re cooking what they’re grabbing and by the time we get to the basement, there are minimal ingredients, but that’s where you find out the most about yourself. This is about bringing the best out of individuals.’

The series also welcomes guest stars Gino D’Acampo, Big Zuu – real name Zuhair Hassan – and Gordon’s daughter Tilly Ramsay.

Speaking about the celebrity cameos, British chef Paul told Metro.co.uk: ‘I found Big Zuu really inspiring, and that round was one of my favourites along with the £2.50 challenge, and he really inspired them [the contestants]. He was brilliant!’

Next Level Chef airs tonight at 9pm on ITV.
