Love Island farmer Will Young has acknowledged sharing a name with the famous singer – but admits he doesn’t have his musical talent.

The 23-year-old is just one of the hopefuls making his way into the hit ITV2 show’s brand-new South African villa for its ninth series next week.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other publications ahead of entering the villa, he said: ‘I wish I could sing like him.

‘That’s what a lot of people do when they see my name’s Will Young, they go, “Oh, give us a song.” But sadly I’m not as musically talented as he is.’

Although he’s never met his namesake, one brush with fame Will has had came when The Traitors and Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman took a trip to his farm.

He told us: ‘It was an amazing and really, really fun experience. She came to the farm one day and filmed a few different TikToks but I haven’t had anybody else slide into the DMs wanting to come sadly.’

Will remained coy when asked how he would feel if one of the girls in the villa was one of his 1,100,000 followers on TikTok.

‘Hopefully they like my content,’ he said. ‘It is a possibility but I’ll just cross that bridge when it comes.’

Despite sharing daily updates from the farm, content creator Will admits he understands the ban Love Island has put on the contestant’s social media channels being active while they’re in the villa.

He said: ‘For me, it will be quite a nice little separation. My TikTok is all education based, I’m trying to teach as much as I can by the TikToks so it will be nice for people to see what I’m like on camera but not holding an animal or treating a sheep or anything like that.’

Love Island announced the new social media rule when it introduced its duty of care protocols for the new series.

They said the move was to ‘protect both the Islanders and their families from the adverse effects of social media’.

Additionally, ahead of entering the villa, the cast have also received guidance and training around being mutually respectful in relationships, including how to understand the patterns associated with controlling and coercive behaviour.

Stars on the show will also continue to be offered video training and guidance covering inclusive language around disability, sexuality, race and ethnicity, and microaggressions.

Love Island starts on Monday January 16 at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX
