The trailer for Netflix’s latest thriller Lockwood & Co has dropped and it’s safe to say it’s not for the faint-hearted.
The eight-parter, which was written and directed by Joe Cornish, 54, is an adaptation of Jonathan Stroud’s ghost detective series of the same name.
It follows the exploits of agents Lucy Carlyle, played by Bridgerton’s Ruby Stokes and George Karim (Ali Hadji-Heshmati), as well as Anthony Lockwood (Cameron Chapman), who has founded his own ghoulish firm.
The official synopsis reads: ‘In a world plagued by ghosts, where giant corporations employ psychic teens to battle the supernatural, only one company operates without adult supervision, and its name is Lockwood & Co.
‘Run by Anthony Lockwood, a rebellious young entrepreneur haunted by his mysterious past, his brilliant but eccentric sidekick George and a newly arrived, supremely gifted girl called Lucy, this renegade trio are about to unravel a terrifying mystery that will change the course of history.’
The trailer begins with a terrified woman lamenting: ‘It’s terrible the world has come to this’ before a ghost is seen leaping out of a wall, poised to attack a sword-brandishing Lockwood.

Having jumped on a train to the Big Smoke, the clip shows Lucy sat downcast in a cafe fingering through a job advert for ‘agents required for an unusual supernatural investigation.’
The plucky teen is then ringing the bell at a large central London townhouse, greeted at the door by George, before being introduced to Lockwood.
‘Welcome to Lockwood & Co,’ he says. ‘How about we find ourselves a ghost?’

The clip then cuts to Lucy whipping out her sword as a female ghost travels towards her, with Lockwood warning her to ‘not move’ as she launches a brutal attack.
The next character introduced is officer Barnes (Ivanno Jeremiah) who is heard telling the trio to ‘pay up’ as a scene cuts to them jumping for dear life out of a burning building.
‘So what now?’ Lucy asks, to which Lockwood responds: ‘All it takes is a few big cases.’

The final half of the trailer is action-packed full of ghosts, epic sword battles and chases across a gloomy London, with George remarking: ‘I’m working with maniacs.’
‘Every ghost in London is out to kill us,’ Lucy warns, as George is heard saying: ‘Now we’re all going to die’ as the trailer draws to a dramatic conclusion.
