A match made in showbiz heaven, Maya Jama and Stormzy joined the ranks of iconic couples, from Alexa Chung and Alex Turner to Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, when they debuted their romance.

The duo began their romance when they were both starting off their eye-wateringly successful careers, with Maya, 28, making a name for herself on screen, while Stormzy, 29, cemented his position as one of the world’s most talented artists.

Since then, the Hide & Seek hitmaker made history when he became the first Black solo British headliner at Glastonbury Festival in 2019 and has launched various programme to help Black members of the community secure roles, including a football scheme.

Meanwhile, Maya left her prestigious Radio 1 gig to pursue an on-screen career, nothing up presenting credits on the likes of Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer and Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up star.

The hun is currently preparing for one of the biggest jobs in telly, hosting Love Island, having taken over from Laura Whitmore, who departed from the ITV juggernaut series last year.

Ahead of winter Love Island’s launch, we look back on Maya and Stomrzy’s relationship.

While Maya and Stormzy officially split back in 2019 after four years together, speculation began brewing they had reunited in November.

In an interview with Louis Theroux, the Big For Your Boots rapper described the break-up as his ‘biggest mistake.’

He explained: ‘My break-up, that was probably the biggest catalyst for growth as a man. It was like, OK, you made a mistake and you lose someone you loved, someone you cared for, someone who is special to you.

‘That’s probably the biggest loss a man can have, isn’t it? Away from someone passing away, that’s the biggest loss you can have.’

But tongues started wagging when the former flames were in attendance at the GQ Men of the Year 2022 awards, with fans going wild thinking they had rekindled their romance when they were spotted together.

However, Maya’s team later confirmed the claims are unfounded and they aren’t in a relationship again, with the star going on to say she was ‘really, really single right now’ to The Sunday Times in January.

Maya’s last public relationship was with Ben Simmons with the pair becoming engaged after a whirlwind romance kicking off in the summer of 2021.

The NBA player and the presenter called time on their romance in August 2022, prompting Maya to return back to the UK after primarily living in the States.

Meanwhile, the rapper hasn’t confirmed a partner since the Celebrity Juice panelist but has been linked to stars including signer Jorja Smith

When did they first start dating?

The Vossi Pop artist and Maya first met in October 2014 at the Red Bull Culture Clash and began dating the following January.

Speaking about the early days of their romance, Maya shared: ‘We were so young when we met, just beginning our careers. I was starting at MTV. He’d not even released a single at that point. We were just little babies

She continued to The Sunday Times: ‘I’m not naive to the fact that when you are a woman in the industry, most of the things that people want to talk about are your relationships. It’s different for men. I’d seen that happen to other people. I don’t think either of us knew it was going to be such a big thing.

‘We were just: we’re young and in love and we’re going to go for it and work really hard. We’re just together. We never really did red carpets. We didn’t do any of that stuff.’
