TV and radio personality nicknamed Country Boy Eddie, Gordon Burns has died aged 92.

The radio star was known for presenting The Country Boy Eddie Show with Country Boy Eddy on WBRC Fox6 news from 1957 to 1993.

The singer hosted artists including Dolly Parton, Marilyn Monroe and Tammy Wynette on his radio show before he stepped down to retire.

In a statement, his family said: ‘This morning, Country Boy Eddy passed away peacefully at his home in Warrior.

‘He was a trailblazer for both the Alabama music and television scenes, and his contributions will continue to live on.’

They continued, as published on WBRC: ‘The Burns family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the viewers, fans, musicians, and everyone else who made his life so special.’

As well as presenting the radio show, Burns entertained audiences with his guitar and fiddle skills.

He also played the banjo, bass, mouth harp and accordian.

As well as showcasing upcoming artists of the time like Parton, Burns introduced Wynette to the music scene, calling her ‘the first lady of country music’.

He once told WBRC: ‘She’s the greatest I think of any female artist we’ve had in country music,’ before Wynette famously brought him on stage during one of her shows.
