Miley Cyrus made the day all about her as she dropped the highly anticipated music video for her new single Flowers – on her ex-husband’s birthday.

The former Disney star, 30, married Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth, 33, in 2018, before the pair divorced in 2020.

They had been together on and off for 10 years since first meeting on the set of 2010’s The Last Song, and were first engaged in 2012 before breaking it off for several years.

It’s believed Liam and Miley are on fair enough terms with each other following the divorce, and the musician may have given her ex a birthday present on Friday as she dropped the new music video on the day he turned 33.

New track Flowers is about a breakup, and contains some lyrics which could specifically be about her relationship with Liam, including that they ‘built a home and watched it burn.’

Liam and Miley’s California house burned down in the 2018 Woolsey Fire, with the pair getting married soon after as they felt it was a sign.

The song goes on to see Miley appear to mourn the end of the relationship, insisting she ‘didn’t want to leave you,’ but she then declares she buy her own flowers and take herself dancing – ‘I can love me better than you can.’

In the video, the former Hannah Montana star struts through the city before stripping off at a California mansion and showing off her toned body in black undergarments by the pool.

Miley then flexes her muscles with a workout in the sun, still in the underwear, before jumping in the pool and later going for a shower, all while singing the heart-wrenching lyrics.

The actress and musician made reference to her and Liam’s ‘disaster’ marriage while on stage in March last year – after a couple got engaged at her concert.

While performing at Lollapalooza Brazil in Sao Paolo, she invited a gay couple on stage so one could propose to the other in front of an audience of thousands, while Miley cheered: ‘Forever, b****!’

After congratulating the happy couple with hugs, the singer then wished them a lifetime of happiness in her very own Miley way, telling them: ‘Hunny, I hope your marriage goes better than mine, mine was a f*****g disaster.’

Miley and Liam split just seven months after tying the knot, with their divorce finalised in January 2020 after Liam filed citing irreconcilable differences.

Announcing their shock split, reps said at the time: ‘Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time.

‘Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.’

They continued: ‘They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.’

The break-up came a week after Miley was seen kissing Kaitlynn Carter in Lake Como Italy, not long after her marriage to Brody Jenner ended

After splitting from Kaitlynn, Miley went on to date singer turned professional swimmer Cody Simpson for around a year until their split in 2020.
