I’m a size 4 but Skims come up so small, I have to buy an XL – it must be a nightmare for plus-size women

WHEN a Skims shopper placed her first order for Kim Kardashian’s famous bodysuit, she felt skeptical.

After receiving her order in the mail, the customer felt vindicated – and frustrated by the brand’s complicated sizing.

Kathryn Mueller usually wears a size four, so when she placed an order for the $62 Skims Sculpting Bodysuit, she chose the small/medium.

When she tried on the bodysuit in a video review, Mueller knew the rumors had been too good to be true.

“I knew when I saw how small the Skims bodysuit was that you guys were lying to me about something,” she said.

“No one mentioned this,” Mueller said, turning to show where the garment fit against her legs. “This bodysuit is literally painful.”

Lifting the elastic edge of the leg, she asked, “Do you see how bad this is cutting into my hip?”

“I’ve only been wearing this for a couple of minutes and it’s so uncomfortable,” Mueller continued, pointing out the red, irritated line.

“I know that it snatches you in and makes you look great, but at what cost?” she asked.

Plenty of commenters encouraged Mueller to size up for a more comfortable fit. In a response video, she explained why the popular advice didn’t make sense.

“I have a problem with that based on the size chart,” she said, sharing a picture of it onscreen.

She compared her own measurements to the Skims chart. Her waist, measuring 26.5 inches, represented the smallest end of the small/medium range.

Mueller’s 38-inch hips were also well within the range recommended for a small or medium fit.

“If you’re telling me to size up, I would have to go to a waist size that would be 10 inches larger than their suggested size range,” she said.

That simply didn’t make sense to her and seemed like a lot of trouble when shopping online.

Mueller also said that if she was expected to jump up a full size range, she wasn’t sure how plus-size women were able to accurately choose their Skims products.

“What are the 3XL or 4XL people wearing?” she asked.

According to the size chart, Skims shapewear is available up to a 4XL/5XL, marked as sizes 22, 24, and 26.

But Mueller was skeptical. “I feel like that’s misleading with their sizing and their size range.”

She clarified her point again in a comment. “I don’t have an issue sizing up,” Mueller wrote.

“But if they’re going to go up to a 5XL, it better fit up to that size,” she added, “and I don’t think it would.”
