The Wanted’s Siva Kaneswaran has opened up about suffering a concussion just days before the Dancing On Ice launch.

Siva, 34, is joining the likes of Love Island’s Ekin-Su Culculoglu and The Only Way is Essex star Joey Essex on the 2023 edition of the ITV juggernaut series.

Hosted by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, the stars will be vying to impress judges Christopher Dean, Oti Mabuse, Ashley Banjo and Jayne Torvill on the competition show.

But while training, Siva took a pretty bad fall.

Chatting to Metro.co.uk and other press, he explained: ‘I had a serious fall and I hit the back of my head.

‘So I’ve been diagnosed with a mild concussion.’

He continued: ‘It can really shake your confidence, especially when you just crack your head on the ice.’

However, Siva admitted that he had ‘expected’ a fall like this during training but was determined to stay ‘focused’, knowing that injuries were ‘part of the whole journey’.

Talking about the fall, the Glad You Came singer said he blacked out for ‘two seconds’ that he doesn’t remember, but was thoroughly checked by medics shortly after.

This comes after Siva saying he wanted to carry on his bandmate Tom Parker’s memory as he took to the ice.

He said: ‘I wanted to take what happened with Tom, you know losing Tom and I was inspired by him and his fight, and take that bravery onto the ice to show people that when you fall down you can get back up.

‘I’m doing it obviously to carry on his memory.’

Parker, who announced in October 2020 he had been diagnosed with stage four glioblastoma, died at a hospice near the south-east London home he shared with his wife Kelsey and their two children.

His bandmates, Nathan Sykes, Jay McGuiness, Max George and Siva were pallbearers at his funeral in April.

Siva also revealed his family thought he was ‘mental’ for signing up for Dancing On Ice because he ‘can’t even dance.’

‘To be dancing on ice, they think I’m bonkers,’ he continued. ‘But I’m very determined.’

Dancing on Ice starts on Sunday at 6:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
