Warning: spoilers ahead for Stranger Things season 4.

The Duffer Brothers might be keeping all things Stranger Things season 5 under wraps, but Sadie Sink has a certain hope for her character Max Mayfield when she returns to Hawkins.

The end of the fourth and penultimate season of the Netflix sci-fi series saw Max in a very precarious situation, having been on the brink of dying for good.

After appearing to perish in Lucas’ (Caleb McLaughlin) arms after being attacked by Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) in the Upside Down, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) used her powers to seemingly bring Max back to life.

However, the state of her health is still up in the air, as the end of the finale saw her in a coma, having had several of her limbs broken while levitating in the air, as well as suffering the loss of her sight.

The last shot viewers saw of Max was of her lying in a hospital bed in a full body cast, unresponsive as Lucas reads to her and the other members of the gang come to pay her a visit.

Looking ahead to the final season of Stranger Things, Sadie simply wants to see her character up and about and out of the body cast.

Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 20-year-old said: ‘I’d like to see her awake. I wanna know if I have to get back in the body cast – I would like for that chapter to be closed.’

However, The Whale star added that she’s none the wiser as to where Max’s story will take her next.

Sadie also recalled how Kate Bush’s classic song Running Up That Hill has stayed with her since season four was released (Picture: ABC)

After Jimmy Fallon quipped that being stuck in a body cast was ‘not the most fun part of the show’, she added: ‘But honestly I’ll just lie down… that’s kinda an easy job. But we’ll see, I have no clue.’

In December, Sadie’s co-star Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers on the show, hinted at how his character’s story will draw to a close in season five.

The 18-year-old said: ‘I can just tell you that I’m very very excited for what’s to come.

‘I think they did a great job with Will’s character this season, and beautifully addressed everything they needed to. The way they closed the show is just perfect – the story started with Will, and it’ll end with Will.’

Stranger Things is available to watch on Netflix.
