The Masked Singer UK has made a very welcome return to our TV series for series four, with 12 mystery celebrities concealing their identities while delighting the audience with their talents on stage.

While the contestants remain hidden underneath their extravagant costumes, Joel Dommett returns to present the ITV programme, while judges Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Rita Ora and Jonathan Ross try their best to guess their identities.

As well as their musical performances, the secret famous faces reveal tidbits about who they are in VTs and riddles, as well as with sneaky clues on their outfits.

Fans will be rallying together on social media to try to get to the bottom of the mysteries each week, as the celebrities are unmasked one by one.

With that in mind, what clues have been given about Rhino and who could they be? Here’s what we know so far.

Firstly, by looking at Rhino’s costume, there are a certain number of sparkly stars embossed on the outfit, so perhaps the total number of stars could be significant.

In Rhino’s first VT, a sign appeared that said ‘Welcome to Cobalt’ – perhaps an indicating a connection to the band Blue.

The sign also said that there was a population of 158,967 people, and the rules were ‘no spittin, no thievin, and no shoutin’.
Three arrows were shown behind Rhino, so could the number three mean something?

‘I want to make sure we have a nice fair game,’ the singer said, perhaps signifying a connection to team sports or some sort of challenge.

At one point, Rhino looked at a list of the ‘Town Crimes’, which included: ‘Arson: 3’, ‘Loitering: 17’, ‘Forgery: 99’, ‘Theft: 40’ and ‘Bad Jokes: 2’. This number adds up to 161.

Perhaps the ‘Bad Jokes: 2’ could refer to a famous comedic duo?

Following his first performance, Rhino delivered one more riddle, which read: ‘I’m chief of this town, and happy go-lucky. But one of you guys might think I’m quite muggy.’

What guesses have been made for Rhino’s identity so far?

Following Rhino’s first performance of Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, the judges made several guesses about who he could be underneath the mask, while fans also came up with a compelling theory.

Charlie Simpson

One name that cropped up among fans was Charlie Simpson, best-known as one of the members of the musical trio Busted.

It was pointed out that the list of crimes could point towards someone being ‘busted’ for committing a crime, hence making a connection to his band.

Another wrote: ‘Rhino is Charlie Simpson from Busted – the population of the town was 158697 – which is a mixed up version of his D.O.B – 7/6/1985! #MaskedSingerUk.’

Someone else referred to the three arrows, stating: ‘Three down arrows, three members of Busted, police car – busted! And his voice is just amazing!’

Russell Brand

Following Rhino’s performance, the first judge who tried to guess his identity was Davina, who thought it could be comedian Russell Brand, owing to the fact that the crime list included 99 forgeries, which could indicate someone who’s good at impressions.

James Blunt

Going down the military route, Jonathan looked at the three arrows and then thought of a musician who had previously been in the military as a possible contender – James Blunt.

Freddie Flintoff

Rita thought that perhaps the suggestions that Rhino is sporty could mean that he may be Freddie Flintoff underneath the mask, although she admitted that she has no idea if the former international cricket star can sing.

Rylan Clark

Pointing towards someone who has experience of competing in a singing competition, Mo claimed that it was Rylan Clark under the mask, who first found fame on The X Factor.

He added that the clue that included the word ‘muggy’ strengthened his argument, as it’s a word that he said he’s heard Rylan use before.

Joel confessed that for the first time ever, he felt convinced that he knew who was under the mask.

To demonstrate how confident he was, he wrote down the name and put the piece of paper back in his pocket, to be opened following the big reveal.

The Masked Singer continues on Saturday at 7pm on ITV.
