Lorraine Kelly has sided with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for declining to accept an apology from Jeremy Clarkson for his controversial column on the Duchess of Sussex.

In what became the most-complained about article ever, Clarkson said he hated Meghan ‘on a cellular level’ and said he wished to see her paraded naked down the street with excrement thrown at her.

He later explained himself by saying he made a ‘clumsy’ reference to Game of Thrones, while Prince Harry described the column as ‘horrific, hurtful and cruel’ during an ITV interview.

The former Top Gear presenter broke his social media silence on Monday when he said he directly apologised to Meghan and Harry in an email sent on Christmas Day – but the couple did not accept the apology.

They said his message did not address ‘his long-standing pattern of writing articles that spread hate rhetoric, dangerous conspiracy theories and misogyny.’

Now chat show host Lorraine has waded into the controversy as she threw her support behind the former senior royals

Addressing the new drama on Tuesday’s Lorraine, the host told Ross King Meghan and Harry are simply ‘not having it – and who can blame them?’

She went on: ‘I don’t blame them. He wrote it, but then it got published which seems utterly bizarre to me.’

Lorraine added that Jeremy appears to be ‘facing the consequences’ for the widely-condemned article, as Amazon called off an event to promote the upcoming series of Clarkson’s Farm last minute.

It has also been reported that Amazon Prime Video has parted ways with the star.

According to Variety, the streaming service won’t be working with the TV personality beyond seasons of The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm that have already been commissioned.

This means that the Top Gear star won’t be appearing in any new shows on Prime Video beyond 2024.

Harry and Meghan issued a public statement in response to Jeremy announcing he had apologised to the couple, where they first claimed he had written solely to Harry, not the former Suits star.

They wrote: ‘While a new public apology has been issued today by Mr Clarkson, what remains to be addressed is his long-standing pattern of writing articles that spread hate rhetoric, dangerous conspiracy theories, and misogyny.

‘Unless each of his other pieces were also written “in a hurry”, as he states, it is clear that this is not an isolated incident shared in haste, but rather a series of articles shared in hate.’
