Love Island viewers heaped praise on Maya Jama’s debut as host, and couldn’t help but notice how many times she appeared in the first episode.
Monday’s winter debut saw 10 Islanders enter into couples, with a few steals along the way before the contestants all admitted to wanting to ‘keep their options open’ and get to know each other.
Annoying buzzwords aside and ongoing glitches aside, our new couples were formed with biomedical student Tanya Manhenga choosing airport security officer Shaq Muhammad.
PE teacher Kai Fagan – who has already been dubbed the new Adam Collard – ended up with hair stylist Tanyel Revan and administrator Anna-May Robey was ultimately coupled with TV salesman Haris Namani.
The majority of the episode consisted of the singletons ‘cracking on’ as per, but things took a startling turn when narrator Ian Stirling hinted that a new bombshell was walking in the villa.
While fans were trying to suss out who the new stunner was, they were shocked to discover that it was presenter Maya, 28, returning to the villa for a second time to introduce the newcomer.

Laura Whitmore confirmed her show exit last year (Picture: ITV)
It didn’t take long before the devoted community started comparing Maya’s stint to previous host Laura Whitmore – who confirmed her departure from the show in August 2022.
‘Maya back already ?? Laura would of been on a plane home by now,’ one person joked.
‘Maya has been in the villa more times than Laura did the whole season already,’ another added.
‘Not Maya making more appearances in one episode than Laura did all last season lol,’ a third person tweeted.
We can assume Laura, 37, hasn’t had time to tune in to the latest season as she is currently enjoying her time in Morocco.
She later shared an image of herself in a very large straw hat and a colourful outfit as she tagged the Moroccan city as her location.

Laura was then seen pouring a hot drink into a glass, writing: ‘Learning all the tricks! Thank you @saad_films for a great start to the week!’
It is unclear why Laura is currently in Morocco, but Saad Films, who she appears to be with said in their Instagram bio they ‘provide luxury services for foreign productions to facilitate their shooting.’
Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
