What to watch this week – from Break Point to Mayor Of Kingstown-Keith Watson-Entertainment – Metro

There’s some great TV shows to catch this week (Picture: Netflix/Paramount+/All4/Metro)

As the winter chill hits this week there’s nothing better than staying in and watching TV.

This week there’s a tennis documentary series called Break Point and there’s also the return of Mayor Of Kingston which is back for its second season.

Let’s not forget Paramount+ show The Chemisty Of Death, which is a six-episode adaptation of Simon Beckett’s books. It features forensic pathologist Dr David Hunter, a man whose tragic past has led him to seek a rural retreat.

Read on to find out what will make it onto your viewing list over the next few days.

Netflix

Break Point

Tennis dramas always come across as a bit naff because actors trying to convincingly copy the skills of the top players just can’t hack it. So here instead we have real drama, led by chief baddie Nick Kyrgios, in a documentary series stalking an array of tennis stars as they rally it out on the gruelling global tour. There are tears, tantrums and the odd volley of racket-based banter. The first five episodes are available now.

Paramount+

The Chemistry Of Death

Norfolk takes centre stage in this atmospheric six-episode adaptation of Simon Beckett’s books featuring forensic pathologist Dr David Hunter, a man whose tragic past has led him to seek a rural retreat – except death has a nasty habit of following him around. Harry Treadaway gives Hunter a haunted charm as he digs out the dirt on a killer with a twisted idea of symbolism. Episode one available tomorrow, with new episodes weekly.

Mayor Of Kingstown

Thankfully, Jeremy Renner is recovering (albeit slowly) after his recent snowplough accident, otherwise this prison-based drama would be an even more intense watch than it already is. Renner stars alongside Dianne Wiest as a power-player in a lawless Michigan town. Season two episode one is available now, new episodes on Mondays.

All4

Grow

Andreas Jessen in Grow on All4 (Picture: All4)

Denmark routinely tops polls as the world’s happiest nation but you wouldn’t know it from its downbeat TV output that puts drugs and murder centre stage. Grow is another offering that highlights the Danes’ dysfunctional side as we follow a bitterly divided family fighting for its corner of the drugs market. It’s a moody grower (sorry) with strong performances from real-life brothers Andreas and Sebastian Jessen as siblings who find themselves on opposite sides of the law. Available on All4’s Walter Presents strand on Friday.
