Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman has announced he is stepping back from the band as he struggles with his mental health.

The iconic rock band set social media alight on Wednesday as they announced they were releasing a new album which would be here very soon.

Fans of the band were shocked and delighted with the news the band’s eighth studio album, So Much (For) Stardust would arrive on March 24.

(And in a year where we also get new albums from Paramore, Pierce The Veil and You Me At Six, it really is turning into peak emo renaissance.)

The day was bittersweet however, as beloved guitarist Joe announced at the same time that he was taking ‘a break from work’ and as his mental health has ‘rapidly deteriorated.’

He wrote on a note on the official Fall Out Boy Instagram: ‘Neil Young once howled that it’s better to burn out than to fade away. But I can tell you unequivocally that burning out is dreadful.

‘Without divulging all the details, I must disclose that my mental health has rapidly deteriorated over the past several years. So, to avoid fading away and never returning, I will be taking a break from work which regrettably includes stepping away from Fall Out Boy for a spell.’

He said it ‘pains’ him to have to make the decision, ‘ especially when we are releasing a new album that fills me with great pride (the sin I’m most proud of).’

However he assured fans that he will ‘one-hundred percent’ return to the band in future, or as he put it, ‘return to the fold.’

‘In the meantime, I must recover which means putting myself and my mental health first.

‘Thank you to everyone, including my bandmates and family, for understanding and respecting this difficult, but necessary, decision.’

The musician was inundated with messages of support from fans in the comment section of his announcement, with thousands wishing him well and urging him to put his health first.

Emo legends Fall Out Boy made their surprise announcement with both the news, the release of a new single Love From The Other Side, and a performance of the track on Jimmy Kimmel Live – we were spoiled.

The band also released an accompanying music video to the single, which is their first new music since 2018’s Mania album.

Rumours began to circulate about an incoming new album back in November, after a weird ad appeared in the Chicago Tribune and multiplied to other teaser sites in December.

On January 11, the band officially revealed the single’s release date.

While Fall Out Boy have not yet announced a 2023 tour, this year happens to be the 20th anniversary of Take This to Your Grave, their debut album – so watch this space.
