Michael Flatley announced that he has been released from hospital and is ‘on the mend’ following his cancer diagnosis.

The Riverdance legend, 64, recently had treatment for the disease and was being looked after by an ‘excellent team of doctors’.

A statement shared on social media confirmed the news. It read: ‘Dear friends, we have something personal to share, Michael Flatley has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

‘He has undergone surgery and is in the care of an excellent team of doctors. No further comments will be made at this time. We ask only for your prayers and well wishes. Thank you. 🙏🏻 Teamlord’

In his latest Instagram post, the Irish dancer shared a picture of himself in full spirit and thanked fans for their ongoing support.

‘Thank you to everyone around the world for your love and prayers,’ he penned.

‘I am overwhelmed by your kindness. I have been released from hospital and am on the mend.’

Many fans were overjoyed by the update, with one writing: ‘Oh Michael, these are exactly the news I’ve been (and I believe everyone else) waiting since last week Tuesday.

‘I am absolutely happy to hear that you are feeling better and everything is going well. May it continue for you to be the best recovery! I couldn’t think of anything else every day. Thank you so much for your update and take a more than deserved rest! We are and will be forever here for you. We love you!!!!’

Echoing a similar sentiment, another added: ‘Michael that’s great news. Holding you high in my thoughts. There’s a lot of love out there for you, I’m sure Many agree. Please rest well.’

A third person wrote: ‘We love you, Michael! God bless your big Irish heart!’

Flatley rose to fame in the Irish dancing production Riverdance, which was first performed as a break in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994. He then went on to create the popular stage show Lord Of The Dance.

Over the years, he has danced for more than 60million people in 60 countries.

Besides his dancing career, the star has also tried his hand at filmmaking. In 2019, he wrote, directed, financed, and starred in the spy film Blackbird, which was set in the UK, Ireland, and Barbados.
