Warwick Davis has been tipped as a possible contender to replace Jeremy Clarkson on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, amid speculation that his time on the ITV programme could come to an end.

In a recent column published by Mr Clarkson in The Sun, he wrote a vile tirade targeted at Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, in which he said: ‘I hate her on a cellular level,’ and referenced a scene from Game of Thrones as he stated that he dreamt of her being ‘made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, “Shame!” and throw lumps of excrement at her’.

The piece became the Independent Press Standards Organisation’s most complained-about article, with Mr Clarkson, 62, issuing an apology amid claims that Amazon would be cutting ties with him, having worked with the TV presenter on The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm.

The head of ITV, Carlyn McCall, stressed that his views were ‘in no way endorsed by ITV’, while the network’s boss Kevin Lygo added: ‘I would say what he writes in a newspaper column… We have no control over what he says.’

When asked if the broadcaster would keep Mr Clarkson as the face of WWTBAM?, Mr Lygo responded: ‘Yes, at the moment we are.’

Nonetheless, there’s continued speculation that his time on the quiz show could be cut short, with several names put forward as favourites to step into his shoes shout that happen.

According to bookmaker William Hill, Harry Potter star Mr Davis is one of the frontrunners, with odds of 8/1, having previously hosted ITV game shows Celebrity Squares and Tenable.

Only Connect host Victoria Coren Mitchell has the same odds, as does comedian and TV presenter Susan Calman, and former Great British Bake Off presenter Sandi Toksvig.

Good Morning Britain’s Ben Shephard has odds of 9/1, while former Pointless host Richard Osman is coming in with odds of 10/1.

Four individuals currently have odds of 12/1 – Pointless’ Alexander Armstong, beloved TV personality Rylan Clark, former Countdown host Anne Robinson and The Chase’s Bradley Walsh – while 8 Out of 10 Cats star Jimmy Carr has odds of 14/1.

William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps, said: ‘Jeremy Clarkson’s time on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? looks to be coming to an end and we’ve priced up a list of potential replacements.

‘The picture should become clearer as time goes on, but at the moment we think Warwick Davis, Victoria Coren Mitchell, Susan Colman and Sandi Toksvig are the favourites for the role at 8/1.’

ITV declined to comment when contacted by Metro.co.uk.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Is available to watch on ITVX.
