The Masked Singer UK star Fawn’s character wasn’t originally supposed to turn out the way that it looks today, as the design had to go through significant changes to be adapted for the celebrity’s body.
Tonight, several contestants competing in the 2023 series of the ITV competition are set to take to the stage once again, with Fawn, Jacket Potato, Pigeon, Rhino and Rubbish going head-to-head in the hopes of staying one more week and keeping their identities concealed.
In week two, Fawn wowed judges Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Rita Ora and Jonathan Ross with their rendition of Beauty and the Beast from the 1991 animated film, prompting fans to guess that perhaps Spice Girl Emma Bunton or former X Factor star Stacey Solomon could be behind the mask.
During a recent chat with Metro.co.uk, costume designer Tim Simpson, who’s managing director of Plunge Creations, revealed the several changes the character went through during the design process.
‘I would say Fawn went through a lot of changes. I basically conceived Fawn in a totally different outfit,’ he revealed.
‘It was going to be in a different set of trousers, and then the trousers changed, and then it went to a skirt, and then it went to a tight jacket. It just went through lots of iterations, because I designed it for a different body shape.’

Tim outlined that once they knew who would be performing as Fawn, they had to reassess the costume to figure out how they could make it suit their body shape and also be practical from a performance perspective.
‘Once we knew who the performer was, it was a matter of actually re-looking at it and thinking, is that form going to suit them? And is that going to actually get the best performance out of them?’ he recalled.
‘It was then quite a process between us and the producers and performers saying, “What are you going to feel most comfortable in?” Often we don’t have to do that.’
He added: ‘With Fawn, it’s quite delicate. It needs to feel delicate. It needed to sit nicely and hang nicely on the performer. I think Fawn was a particular one that went through a lot of changes.’

In the first clues package given about Fawn, the singer stressed: ‘You might think a fawn is a young deer but I’m certainly not a baby.’
They also described maths as a ‘passion’ of theirs… so perhaps the clues could be pointing towards Countdown’s maths whizz Rachel Riley? Let’s see what clues emerge tonight!
The Masked Singer UK returns tonight at 7pm on ITV and ITVX.
