The Traitors star Kieran Tompsett addresses ‘cheating’ claims: ‘I knew the rules’-Meghna Amin-Entertainment – Metro
Kieran left the Faithfuls with a ‘parting gift’.
The Traitors star Kieran Tompsett has addressed claims that he ‘cheated’, as we’re still recovering from the thrilling climax that was the game show’s finale.
In the final roundtable, Kieran dropped the biggest clue ever, leading Faithfuls Aaron Evans, Meryl Williams and Hannah Byczkowski with the idea that Wilfred Webster was the last standing Traitor.
Days before, Wilf recruited Kieran to his dark side, hoping to steal the £101,050 jackpot, but in their final moments, Shakespearean levels of psychodrama and back-stabbing led to Kieran being banished from the game.
But instead of going down silently or even defending himself, he gave the Faithfuls cryptic clues, with a ‘parting gift’ when he unveiled Wilfred’s name on his board, before going on to seriously eyeball his fellow Traitor.
It suddenly sparked to Hannah and Aaron that Wilf was the final Traitor, and some fans accused Kieran of heavily ‘cheating’ at the time.
However, the BBC quickly issued a statement afterwards, setting the record straight that Kieran did not breach any rules.

And now, Kieran has addressed the comments himself.
In an exclusive chat with Metro.co.uk, he said: ‘If it was cheating, it would have been stopped there and then, it wouldn’t have made it to the cut six months after it was made.
‘People say I broke the rules, there are only 22 players that have ever played the game The Traitors: we know the rules, we know the parameters and how they’re set.

‘You can openly sit at that table like Wilf did and say it’s Amanda or Alyssa, I can stand up and say Wilf I think you’re a Traitor for XY reasons, I can say that.
‘What you can’t do is go, I know Wilf’s a Traitor because I’m a Traitor. That’s breaching the code, so apart from that you can plant seeds.
‘That’s the good thing about this show, psychological warfare, but you are seeing full blown arguments between people, and me and Wilf are absolutely fine.’

Kieran went on to talk about how he and Wilf have been messaging and going out after the show, and remain close friends.
‘He don’t hold a grudge, I don’t hold a grudge, but some people are having massive arguments about it, and me and Wilf are absolutely fine!’
Shortly after the series ended, Wilf himself told Metro.co.uk that Kieran was his ‘saving grace’, saying: ‘Kieran was my saving grace. I think if I had won, taking the money from Hannah, Meryl and Aaron, and I’m so close with them, I don’t think I could’ve been friends with them after.

‘‘It would’ve been different and because I’m so close to them, that’s why I was so happy. I wasn’t even bothered.
‘That’s when you realise, yeah it’s a great amount of money, but in my life I’ve always had a five-year plan to achieve what I want to achieve, so that money was just gonna make it happen a bit sooner. It wasn’t about the money, I made friends for life.’
The Traitors is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
