Ariana Grande’s fans have been wondering why she hasn’t released new music in a minute, and the superstar songstress has responded in the best way.

Grande hasn’t dropped an album since 2020’s Positions, but to say it’s been a full-on few years for the star would be an understatement.

Not only has she tied the knot since then, but she also signed up to play Glinda in Wicked parts one and two.

In a TikTok video posted over the weekend, Grande, 29, wrote in response to fans asking ‘why she’s not a singer anymore’: ‘[I’m] literally on set filming two musical movies all day every day.’

The best part? Grande – who could be seen snuggled up beneath a knitted pink hoody – also belted out a stunning cappella performance of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

The Grammy-winner captioned her post: ‘wanted to sing you a little something but don’t want to sing anything that is not “Ozian” at the moment 🙂 keeping to my little bubble for now … done with lots of love.’

Grande and her co-star Cynthia Erivo both announced in November 2021 that they’d be starring opposite each other in Wicked, with the latter playing Elphaba, the Wicked Witch.

It comes after Kristin Chenoweth – who was the first person to take on the role of Glinda when Wicked premiered on Broadway in 2003 – shared her opinion on how Grande will approach the role.

Chenoweth, 54, said she thinks Grande will add her own flare to her portrayal of the Good Witch and admitted she was proud of the chart-topper for stepping up to play the part.

Sitting down with Andy Cohen for Watch What Happens Live, Chenoweth was questioned over producers’ choice to cast the 7 Rings singer in the films.

Admitting she had already spoken to Grande about the opportunity, she said: ‘She’s going to put her own stamp on it. I’m so proud of her. I wanted her to do her Glinda. And that’s what she’s doing. I’m proud of her.’

The Bravo host went on to ask: ‘How do you feel about the Wicked movies being split into two? Is there enough for two?’

The Tony Award winner replied without hesitation: ‘There’s so much more in the books that we know about the characters, so yeah, there is.

‘And I haven’t read anything, but I think so. I think there is enough.’

Adapted from the Broadway musical script, the Wicked films are set to be released on December 25, 2024, and December 25, 2025, director Jon M. Chu has confirmed.
