Aubrey Plaza made her Saturday Night Live hosting debut over the weekend and The White Lotus star brought an old co-star on stage for a sketch.

None other than Amy Poehler joined Plaza on stage, and the pair even performed as their Parks and Recreation characters, April Ludgate and Leslie Knope.

Plaza, 38, was in character as April while taking part in Colin Jost’s Weekend Update segment, and when pressed about her government job (Parks and Rec famously followed local government employees in the fictional town of Pawnee) she said to Jost: ‘I don’t know, just ask my old boss, Leslie Knope.’

Poehler, 51, then bowled onto stage in character as Knope and quipped: ‘Who knew there were cameras in SNL?’

‘I used to watch this when Seth Meyers did it by himself with no one else,’ she added, a tongue-in-cheek nod to her own stint as a cast member between 2001 and 2008, when she used to co-host Weekend Update with Meyers.

Elsewhere, Plaza took part in other side-splitting sketches, including one in which she played M3GAN – the main character in director Gerard Johnstone’s new killer doll horror – and another that saw her portray one of Avatar’s Na’vi creatures.

Parks and Rec ran from 2009 until 2015 and last year Poehler confirmed she’d be down to take part in another season of the show.

The iconic cast returned to mark Galentine’s Day in 2019, and then starred in a coronavirus special that saw our favourite characters dealing (in their own ways) with social distancing.

But speaking in April, Poehler said she’d be up for an eighth run and is ‘always standing by’ for a return to Pawnee.

She told People: ‘Anytime anybody gives me the word, and I’m down.’

The star previously teased a comeback in 2018, saying she is ‘ready anytime’ but the cast is at the mercy of show creator Mike Schur.

‘I am technically available,’ Amy told Variety. ‘I have like six of Leslie’s blazers in my closet, so any time.’

We’ll be keeping our fingers firmly crossed.
