Alec Baldwin has shared his first post since it was revealed on January 19 that he’ll be charged with involuntary manslaughter over the death of Halyna Hutchins in October 2021.
Cinematographer Hutchins, 42, died on the set of the movie Rust after Baldwin, 64, accidentally discharged a gun. The actor maintains that he did not know there was a live round in the gun, which was being used as a prop for a scene.
The 30 Rock star returned to social media on Sunday night and posted a photo of his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, and one of their young sons, but Baldwin was met with backlash, with many criticising the ‘creepy’ nature of the actor’s caption.
In the image, the Baldwins’ five-year-old son Leo could be seen rubbing his mum’s shoulders while looking at the camera.
The Beetlejuice actor captioned his Instagram post: ‘The old “let me give you a back rub” ploy,’ before adding: ‘Potato chips to follow,’ hours later after many of his 2.5million followers accused him of ‘sexualising’ his young son.
Beneath the photo of his wife and one of the seven children they share, disgruntled comments quickly piled up, with one person querying: ‘Does anyone else think this is creepy af with the caption? Pic is sweet. Caption makes it weird.’

Baldwin also explained why he edited his caption in the comments section of his post (Picture: Instagram/alecbaldwininsta)
Another Instagrammer echoed: ‘Bro what is wrong with you? You had to make it creepy AF with the caption?’
‘Sexualising children is always so weird but your own child? Yikes,’ complained someone else.
Other comments included: ‘This caption isn’t ok. At all’ and ‘Alec. The back rub “ploy” is a joke between grownups not mother/son omg google it or something. Someone please tell him!’
Clarifying why he’d edited his caption, Baldwin wrote in the comment section: ‘I adjusted the text. I guess because…you know…there is so much of that Reddit trash out there.’
His post came just hours after it was revealed Baldwin wouldn’t be charged with shooting the director of Rust (Picture: ANGELA WEISS / AFP)

His post came just hours after it was revealed Baldwin wouldn’t be charged with shooting the director of Rust.
The dad-of-eight will not be charged with Joel Souza’s shooting, despite the fact he was hit by the same bullet that killed cinematographer Hutchins.
The reason being is that there is reportedly ‘no crime’ as far as the shooting of Souza is concerned.
According to the Santa Fe District Attorney’s Office in information obtained by TMZ, the only way to characterise the shooting of Souza is an ‘unintentional battery,’ and no such thing exists.
The outlet adds that a battery requires intent, and the D.A. says Baldwin had no intention to hurt anyone.
It’s reported that the case against Baldwin is rooted in alleged recklessness.
Head armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, faces the same charge, and both she and Baldwin face a maximum of five years in prison if found guilty.

But, the star’s lawyers have pledged their determination to fight the charges against him.
His legal team plans to argue that Baldwin merely followed long-standing custom, so that would in no way constitute recklessness.
