Below Deck icon Kate Chastain admits tough Traitors US ‘broke’ her: ‘Everybody was always going after me’-Rishma Dosani-Entertainment – Metro
Poor Kate!
*WARNING: Spoilers for the Traitors US below*
There is no denying that Kate Chastain was the breakout star of the Traitors US, stealing the scene nearly every time that she was on our screens – but she confessed that the competition ‘broke’ her at points.
The Below Deck icon had a rollercoaster time of it in the Scottish castle, she lost both of her allies very early on and instantly became a target for all the competitors.
The Traitors – made up of Cirie Fields, Cody Calafiore, Christian de la Torre, and briefly Arie Luyendyk Jr – would often use the former chief stewardess as their decoy, as everyone suspected her of not being a Faithful.
She ended up begging to leave on multiple occasions, and also throwing a challenge as she was unhappy with the idea of raising money that wouldn’t end up going to a Faithful.
Speaking in a new interview, she admitted that she went in thinking that she had an advantage over her fellow competitors, due to her time on board the Bravo series, but was ‘broken’ down.

‘I thought most of these people have never been in a situation where they’ve just had their communication with the world cut off,’ she said. ‘I was like, “Oh, I’ve done this. This is not going to break me.”
‘I think the challenges broke me. The accusations broke me. The lack of access to my phone and the lack of access to a nice cold martini.
‘Because everybody was always going after me, I felt like I had no control over my existence in this game. So, really, I wanted to reclaim that control by making it a “You can’t fire me, I quit” kind of deal. If they get rid of me, which they’re all trying to, if I say that’s what I want, then maybe I still win. Still get my way.’
When questioned on why she didn’t just walk out, Kate joked to Vulture that she had too many good outfits with her to leave early.

‘I’m going to be completely honest with you: I packed a lot of cute outfits that I wanted to put onscreen,’ she added. ‘I didn’t lug two suitcases full of wool jackets from Florida for them not to get on-camera.’
Totally fair enough.
The hit game show followed a group of strangers who were thrown together in a castle in the Scottish Highlands in an attempt to win $250,000.
They were secretly split into two groups, the Faithful and the Traitors – with the latter given then power to kill off their co-stars.

To avoid being murdered, and hopefully take home the jackpot, the contestants had to work together to discover who the killers among them are, and who has been lying all along.
Discussing the series with Metro.co.uk, Kate previously insisted that things are tightly locked down behind the scenes, which makes the game a lot harder.
‘We tried to [sneak around] but they really kept an eye on us,’ she told us. ‘We are very close to each other but we cannot leave our rooms.

‘The security was tight. You’re really only just left with your thoughts – and that really plays a huge part in the game, and your psychological warfare.
‘When you have no distractions and you’re just lying in the castle bed at night, all you can think about is the game and you become obsessed.
‘I think it’s by design that we’re cut off from each other and it worked.’
The Traitors is available to stream on Peacock in the US, and on BBC in the UK.
