Cheryl won’t rule out a Girls Aloud reunion in the future – but says more time needs to pass after bandmate Sarah Harding’s tragic death.

In an exclusive interview with Guilty Pleasures, the pop star pondered the possibility of reforming with Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts, and Nadine Coyle.

The iconic girl group, who celebrated their 20th anniversary last year, were left heartbroken by the loss of Sarah, who died aged 39 in September 2021 following a battle with breast cancer.

‘To be honest, we found out Sarah was sick because we’d sat down together to talk about how, if, and what we would like to do to celebrate the 20 years [of the band]. And then all that happened, and it changed the feeling of it. It just put a funny taste in my mouth,’ Cheryl, 39, shared.

‘I’ve learnt throughout my life [though] that you should never say never, because the universe has a funny way of going, “Oh, really?” But right now, we’re not there. We want it to be fun, not sad. Girls Aloud weren’t sad, we were fun, happy, upbeat, everything that that’s not.

‘I think more time would be needed before we even – none of us have even uttered a word [about] that. We just have spoken about Sarah. We’ve become really close together.’

Could a Girls Aloud-inspired musical one day be in the works, perhaps? The former X Factor judge certainly isn’t saying (Sexy) No, No, No to the idea.

‘Do you mean, other actresses playing us? Yeah, I mean the music lends itself, doesn’t it? That would be great. Then we’d just get to go watch – perfect,’ she smiled.

Meanwhile, fans may be clamouring for Cheryl to release new solo music – but she cannot Promise This will happen.

‘I’ll often get a twinge. I’ll hear a really great song and think, “Ooh.” But it’s not how it was before. If could go out on tour and just perform every night, I would be there. There’s a lot of other stuff around it that goes into it that I don’t enjoy,’ she said.

The singer, whose last album was 2014’s Only Human, revealed that she does have some bops up her sleeve, mind.

‘It’s a shame because I do have some good songs that I haven’t released… if I do it, I want to do it well, and the record labels don’t like to give you the big budgets you like for a really great video. It’s just not the same.’

Well, now you’re just being a tease, Chezza…
