Eamonn Holmes has been through two years of health hell, but he’s revealed that someone quite unexpected helped him through it – Jo O’Meara from S Club 7.

Speaking about his terrifying fall in October 2022, the 63-year-old opened up about his health issues over the years and how it’s left him reliant on ‘a frame, crutches or a wheelchair to get around’.

‘I would give anything just to be able to walk my dog or play a round of golf like I used to,’ confessed Eamonn, who has recently returned to work at his new GB News anchor role, after spending four months off sick.

His new job came after he and his wife Ruth Langsford were replaced by Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond as This Morning hosts in November 2021, after 15 years of presenting the Friday slot together.

Eamonn certainly didn’t expect his first year of his new job, which started in January 2022, to be riddled with health complications.

The Belfast-born star was already walking with a stick after three slipped discs in his back in early 2021 left his right leg with limited movement, before a terrifying near-fatal fall down the stairs in his Surrey mansion broke the presenter’s shoulder.

‘Ruth came rushing down the stairs. She kept saying, “You’re fine, everything’s okay, you’re fine.” I said, “Ruthie, there is a bone sticking out of my shoulder – I’m not fine,”‘ Eamonn told the Daily Mail.

But it was after he took to social media complaining of his chronic back pain from his slipped discs that S Club 7’s Jo O’Meara came to the rescue.

Jo’s advice came after last May, when the TV presenter flew home to Belfast to host an event in honour of his friend Gloria Hunniford, but was shortly redirected to A&E after his spinal issue caused bladder and bowel problems.

Eamonn was relieved when he was sent for emergency surgery as a result, but when it was cancelled last minute he was devastated.

The veteran anchor was all set on the operating table and the surgeon was masked up and ready, before he decided it was too complicated to operate without further investigation.

On his return to a busy work schedule in the UK, things were not easy, and Eamonn had to rely heavily on his GB news co-host Isabel Webster to get him from A to B.

It was then that Jo, who had just been through similar back issues herself, contacted Eamonn on social media and recommended him a surgeon.

‘She got in touch to say she had the same disc problems I did and had just had surgery with a German surgeon. I asked if she could pass on his details, because by now I was desperate,’ he said.

Following Jo’s help, Eamonn booked the surgeon in to operate in late September.

For the most part, the operation worked and generally the pain disappeared, but Eamonn was left with a dodgy left leg that has a habit of collapsing unexpectedly.

Once home, the result of his leg giving away unexpectedly was six falls in ten days having never fallen before in his life – and the really bad fall which happened on October 11.

It was about 2am and ‘Ruthie’ was in bed when Eamonn tried to walk up their spiral staircase to join her, before his leg collapsed without any warning and he fell back down and hit the stone floor at the bottom.

He was then stuck waiting for an ambulance for two hours with a bone sticking out of his shoulder, and blood ‘pouring’ from his mouth.

Luckily, Eamonn’s shoulder has mostly recovered, but he still has mobility issues, and his knee can give way at any time.

But it’s not all doom and gloom, as presenter friend Rylan Clark helped Eamonn see the funny side when he visited the GB News presenter at home and took his new stair lift for a spin.

‘Can I just say, I know you’ve been through it dad but, you’ve got an easy life here,’ joked Rylan, mid-lift, after giving camerawoman Ruth a regal wave and a chuckle.

Eamonn seemed to enjoy himself too, as he commented on Rylan’s post: ‘Welcome to The Fun Palace ! Great night my friend 👏👏👏👏👏.’
