There was a mini Modern Family reunion over the weekend as Julie Bowen dropped in to watch Jesse Tyler Ferguson on stage on Take Me Out.

The acclaimed play, also starring Jesse Williams, is currently on Broadway with a string of famous faces being spotted in the audience so far.

Julie, who delighted fans as Claire Dunphy, couldn’t help swinging by to cheer her on-screen brother on from the crowd during a night out in New York.

Sharing a selfie with the Mitchell Pritchett actor, she penned: ‘Best night at the theater ever! @jessetyler is PHENOMENAL in Take Me Out.

‘The whole cast was perfection. I’m so proud to call you my fake brother, Jesse! I love you!!’

Alongside a similar snap on his own page, Jesse added: ‘My soul and heart needed this reunion with @itsjuliebowen.

‘Thank you for coming to @takemeoutbway! I ❤️ you Julie.’

Unsurprisingly, fans were living for the reunion and flooded both Instagram posts with praise – questioning where Ed O’Neill, who played their dad, Jay, was.

‘I love seeing how much you all support each other post production. So cute,’ a follower said.

‘I’m not crying, you are crying,’ another replied.

‘My soul and heart needs modern family to come back just saying,’ one wrote.

As an Instagram user added: ‘I love seeing your pics with former modern family cast, shows how great your friendship is.’

Modern Family ran for 11 seasons and focused on the day-to-day shenanigans of the Pritchetts and the Dunphys as we got a glimpse into their intertwining lives.

The series left our screens two years ago, but it turns out that there was initially a possible spin-off in the works behind the scenes, focusing on Mitch and husband Cam Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) and decision to swap California for Missouri.

During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live!, Jesse spilled on the sequel series, telling host Andy Cohen: ‘There were discussions. I think the network decided against it.

‘That’s the first time I ever said that!

‘I think they were just wondering if this was the right family to still tell that story.

‘We’d been on for 11 years, I think they were ready to move in a different direction.’

Jesse’s different direction took him to Broadway, where he landed the role of Mason Marzac in Take Me Out.

His character unwittingly becomes a close confidant of baseball star Darren Lemming (Jesse Williams), who comes out as gay and is confronted with homophobic and racist prejudices.
