Michael J Fox has opened up on his close friendship with Back To The Future co-star Christopher Lloyd, admitting it took them a few sequels to truly bond.

The pair starred as Marty McFly and Emmett ‘Doc’ Brown in the beloved time-travel adventure trilogy – with the first film released in 1985.

They later reprised their roles as the high schooler and scientist for two sequels, released in 1989 and 1990.

In an appearance at Sundance Film Festival, Michael, who stole our hearts as the rogue teenager, shed light on working with the Hollywood icon.

‘Chris is a great guy. He’s very enigmatic,’ he told Variety. ‘It took me a few films to get to know him. On Back to the Future Part III we connected in a way we hadn’t on the other films. I came to see how much he loved acting. I never got that before.

‘To sit down and talk about acting, and talk about Shakespeare and King Lear…This guy can play King Lear! People don’t expect that of him. He’s full of surprises.

‘He can tell a movie’s worth of story in two seconds, and you get it. Us regular actors have to lay out hours and hours to get the information out.

‘Chris is brilliant at it. His love of film and his love of being an actor…He’s not just a crazy guy, he’s an artist.’

The former co-stars recently enjoyed an emotional reunion at New York Comic-Con, leaving many audience members in tears.

Christopher was later on hand to support Michael – who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1991 – when he received the Academy’s prestigious Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in November, proving their friendship is still going strong.

Parkinson’s disease is a brain disorder that causes unintended or uncontrollable movements.
