Andrea Riseborough woke up to a special surprise after finding out she was nominated for her first Academy Award.

The Made In Dagenham actress, 41, has been recognised for her leading role in the independent drama To Leslie, which sees the star play a single mother who turned to alcoholism after winning the lottery before turning her life around when a motel owner offers her a job.

Although the film was snubbed at this year’s Golden Globes and Critics Choice, several Hollywood legends raved over Andrea’s performance.

Titanic megastar Kate Winslet told the Black Mirror actress: ‘You should be up for everything, you should be winning everything, and Andrea Riseborough this is the greatest female performance on screen I have ever seen in my life, I love you.’

Cate Blanchett -who’s name is also included in the best actress category – used the opening minute of her Critics Choice speech to single out Riseborough’s performance describing it as overlooked in acting awards.

Other Hollywood a-listers including Charlize Theron, Jennifer Aniston, and Zooey Deschanel have also publicly praised Andrea’s performance, and no doubt rooting for her to nab the award.

Reflecting on the moment she found out about her nomination, Andrea told Deadline: ‘I’m astounded.’

‘It’s such an unexpected ray of light. It was so hard to believe it might ever happen because we really hadn’t been in the running for anything else.

‘Even though we had a lot of support, the idea it might actually happen seemed so far away.’

Prior to the announcement, the hashtag #ToLeslie was even trending, as stars rallied together in what appeared to be a campaign to get Andrea’s performance in with the chance of an Oscar, and to raise awareness for the plight of small-budget films in general.

To Leslie reportedly took only 19 days to make with a budget of under a million dollars.

Film critic Guy Lodge, said: ‘Be cynical if you like, but Andrea Riseborough is really f*****g good in TO LESLIE, and if an aggressive friends-of-friends campaign nets her a Best Actress nomination over certain drearier big-name options, I’m all for it. It’s no less legit than giant studio spending.’
