The cast of Disney Plus’ latest original Extraordinary struggled to contain themselves when Siobhan McSweeney was around.

The eight-parter follows 25-year-old Jen (Máiréad Tyers) who is the only ordinary person in a world where everyone develops superpowers on their 18th birthday.

Jen’s sister Carrie (Sofia Oxenham) has the power to channel the dead, and Carrie’s beau Kash (Bilal Hasna) has the ability to turn back time.

While she goes on a personal quest to fit in with the supernatural crowd, Jen’s mother Mary – played by Derry Girls icon Siobhan- does her best to comfort her along the way.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk Extraordinary cast members Máiréad, Sofia, Bilal, Luke Rollason – who has the unfortunate name of Jizzlord – detailed what it was like working with the Sister Michael star on set.

‘Sister Michael is such an iconic look,’ Máiréad told us.

Bilal added: ‘Seeing Siobhan with her amazing short hair in this was mad.’

Speaking about her motherly character, Belfast actress Máiréad gushed: ‘She [Siobhan] just plays an Irish mammy so brilliantly! And she’s a comedy genius. There were many times when we were trying not to laugh with her on set.’

We guarantee Siobhan never failed to bring in the laughs!

Jen is the only one powerless in her world (Picture: Disney+)

The official synopsis reads: ‘Adrift in a big, confusing world and armed with nothing but a bit of hope, a lot of desperation and her flatmates, Jen begins her journey to find her maybe-superpower.’

For context, Jen is surrounded by where one can change their hair colour with a snap, and another can turn back time, even the cats are blessed with a power…and poor Jen has nothing.

But will Jen discover that being different from the rest might be the greatest power of all?

Extraordinary is available to stream on Disney Plus.
