A This Morning interview descended into adorable chaos when a four-year-old ‘child genius’ wouldn’t stop playing with Dermot O’Leary, high fiving and jumping all over the TV host.
On Friday’s episode of the ITV programme, Dermot and Alison Hammond welcomed Teddy Hobbs and his mum, Beth, onto the show.
Teddy has become Britain’s youngest ever member of Mensa, which is the largest and oldest high-IQ society in the world.
However, when he arrived for his interview with the This Morning co-presenters, Dermot set off the prodigy by asking for a high five… resulting in the child gesturing for more high fives again, again and again as they quickly formed a heartwarming bond on live TV.
As Beth tried to continue with the interview, explaining when she first realised Teddy’s intelligence was higher than average – with the ability to count to 100 in seven different languages – the sound and sight of Teddy playing with Dermot proved a persistent distraction.
After the continuous high fives, Teddy started to jump on Dermot, with the broadcaster going along with the fun by throwing himself back on the sofa.

At one point, Alison turned to her colleague and said: ‘Dermot O’Leary, I’m trying to have an interview! And you’re just playing.’
‘What am I supposed to do?!’ Dermot replied, as he fell back yet again on the couch, while Alison giggled.

Alison tried to help Beth out by encouraging Teddy to go back to his mum, but it wasn’t long before the four-year-old had descended from her lap and reached out to Dermot for another high five.
When Teddy ran over to Dermot, the This Morning star picked him up and gave him a tickle on the sofa, as the child beamed with enjoyment, clearly having the best time.
Several This Morning viewers said they found the interaction so joyful, while also praising Dermot for going along with Teddy wanting to have a play.
‘This is carnage. it’s brilliant!’ one person tweeted, while another said: ‘Dermot is just a big kid himself isn’t he?!’
‘Dermot letting the child play is far more natural than just making him sit there. Him and Alison are the best,’ someone else stated.
One viewer wrote: ‘Child genius on #ThisMorning having the absolute time of his life. I’ve not heard a word his mum has said!’ as another person remarked: ‘Dermot and the 4-year-old genius playing together during this interview is just delightful and hilarious.’
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
