Forza Motorsport may not be out until the end of the year but Turn 10 has revealed how Xbox One owners can play the game.

Although it was only ever announced for the Xbox Series X/S and PC, it did look as if Microsoft’s Forza Motorsport reboot would still come out for the Xbox One as well.

This is because images of it running on the older hardware leaked last year. While a cross-gen release would make sense, it was still a tad disappointing knowing the newer console would continue to lack any true exclusives, that could take full advantage of its capabilities.

However, in the wake of the newest gameplay footage, developer Turn 10 Studios has emphatically said that there is no Xbox One version of Forza Motorsport… but you will be able to play it through the older console regardless.

This is thanks to the Xbox Cloud Gaming service, which will let Game Pass Ultimate subscribers stream the game through the Xbox One. So, even those who still don’t own an Xbox Series X/S won’t have to miss out.

Surprisingly, this wasn’t mentioned during the recent Developer_Direct showcase, with this detail only discovered via an update on the game’s support page.

‘Forza Motorsport has been built from the ground up to leverage the full power and performance of Xbox Series X/S consoles and deliver our most beautiful, technically advanced game yet,’ it reads, explaining why Turn 10 isn’t simply porting it to the Xbox One.

‘While there will not be a native Xbox One version of the game, Xbox One players can stream Forza Motorsport through Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.’

On one hand, this is a neat alternative for those who may not be able to afford an Xbox Series X/S and raises the possibility of future titles working the same way.

However, cloud streaming isn’t the most reliable of services and is wholly dependent on one’s Internet connection. Microsoft’s own service is still in beta and it openly admits that the technology is ‘immature.’

Turn 10 and Microsoft also failed to provide a release date for Forza Motorsport, which is worrying considering the game is supposed to be out before the end of June.

However, insider Jeff Grubb, an often reliable source of info, has claimed that he’s heard the game is ‘going to slip later into the year.’ Or more precisely, the second half of the year, suggesting that it has seen an internal delay. You can hear his remarks in the latest Game Mess Decides podcast below, from the 16:04 mark.

Starfield also still lacks a concrete release date, after being pushed into 2023, but Microsoft has already promised to host a dedicated Starfield showcase sometime soon that may provide that detail.

Forza Motorsport launches for Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2023.
