Happy Valley’s James Norton has teased what audiences can expect from the finale, which marks the end of Sally Wainwright’s unmissable police drama.
On February 5, millions of Happy Valley fans will be glued to their TVs anxiously awaiting the last ever episode, preying Sergeant Catherine Cawood makes it out alive.
In the latest instalment, Norton’s villain Tommy Lee Royce managed to flee prison and is inevitably going to track down his son Ryan and no doubt there will be several causalities along the way.
Sarah Lancashire and Norton were given scripts of the finale before the other cast members and were sworn to secrecy until everyone else had read it too.
The cast also filmed multiple endings so actually none of them definitely know how it all pans out.
‘Everyone I’ve spoken to who has read it is like “phew”,’ Norton told BBC.

‘It’s just great. It’s Sally [Wainwright, writer] letting rip in her wonderful way. Going against expectation, but also giving you what you want. I loved reading it.
He added: ‘There’s also a little bit of melancholy tinge there because it’s the end of a very significant chapter for everyone.’
Obviously, he’s giving nothing away, but fans have come up with all sorts of theories with many predicting Catherine will die because life is a cruel beast.
That and the latest episode really made to remind us that her retirement is coming up and it would just stick the knife in harder for her to perish days before she was about to embark on her dream trip to the Himalayas, to live her best tranquil life.
Others think Ryan is actually plotting to kill Tommy.
Of course both theories could be true but one thing is for sure – there will be blood.
Happy Valley continues Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
