Bruno Tonioli has voiced his opinion that Britain’s Got Talent is the ‘biggest show on British TV’ now that he’s a part of it.

This week, it was finally confirmed that the former Strictly Come Dancing judge would be joining the talent competition, taking David Walliams’ place on the judging panel.

He joins returning judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon, having recently filmed his first bout watching and assessing first auditions for the programme, which is due to return later this year.

Following his debut on the ITV series, Bruno, 67, stressed that he has ‘nothing bad to say about Strictly’, while adding that he knows talent when he sees it on the stage.

‘This is the biggest show on British TV, now that I’m here. I mean it. Simon is going to hate that I’ve said that but oh well,’ he told The Sun.

‘I have nothing bad to say about Strictly, it changed my life.’

He added that Britain’s Got Talent is ‘completely different and it’s a completely different sort of judging’.

‘The range of this show, you see things that you have no idea are coming,’ the dancer and choreographer stated.

‘I have been in showbiz for 50 years now and I’ve worked with everyone from Tina Turner and French and Saunders to Michael Caine, so I know when something works and I know why it works. I know what this job needs.’

Following the first day of auditions, it was revealed that Bruno had already been ‘told off’ on set, after getting up from his seat and apparently being too harsh on some auditionees.

On another extreme, he enthused over one act so much that he’s said to have already pressed his golden buzzer for them, sending them straight through to the live semi-finals.

‘I’ve had so much fun, I’ve already been told off. I’m loving it!’ Bruno reportedly declared to the audience.

After his official introduction confirming his new role, he said: ‘Thank you very much. I am thrilled to be here,’ as they cheered and clapped for him and the panel of judges.

He added in a statement: ‘Here we are, Britain’s Got Talent. I am so excited. It’s my first show, I have no idea what’s going to happen, but I’m sure it’s going to be brilliant.’

Britain’s Got Talent returns to ITV later this year.
