Katherine Ryan was heavily pregnant during filming for The Masked Singer and she has admitted it impacted her performance.

The 39-year-old comedian, who has 12-year-old daughter Violet from a previous relationship and 19-month-old son Fred with partner Bobby Kootstra, gave birth to daughter Fenna Grace mid-December and has opened up about her experience on the show after being revealed as Pigeon over the weekend.

‘The baby was also Pigeon! She and I, together, have done one over on her big sister,’ she laughed after tricking her eldest daughter despite Violet being convinced her mum was behind the feathery outfit.

She added: ‘The Pigeon costume made room to conceal the pregnancy. I was more winded than I thought it would be. I always feel like I can do anything, and that’s been a real bonus in my life but sometimes a hinderance.

‘I was like, “That’ll be fine!” I insisted on doing full choreography, dancing, I had a babies foot often in my ribcage. I couldn’t – I mean, you can hear the panel saying, “Oh she’s not a singer, she’s not a singer”.

‘Up until that point I thought I was quite a good singer! That was the dream! I started in musical theatre and I loved it.’

Despite thinking she had the talent, the Australian star decided to focus on the ‘guessing game’ element and made sure to disguise her voice by putting on an Essex accent.

‘I knew I would never win a singing competition so I had to lean into the guessing game. I think I did really well with that,’ she said.

Indeed, her close friends Joel Dommett and Jonathan Ross – who host the show and appear on the panel respectively – didn’t guess her identity, with guesses including Gemma Collins and Stacey Solomon.

‘I was quite worried that Joel especially was going to guess me straight away because I was right next to me the whole time,’ she admitted.

‘I can feel someone’s essence sometimes, I feel like I would’ve guessed Joel in the costume. But I think he might have known it was me, maybe.’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1.
