Sony starts hinting at Uncharted 5 sequel in new PS5 marketing campaign-Michael Beckwith-Entertainment – Metro

Naughty Dog may be done with Uncharted but Sony is not, as fans are convinced its new PS5 ad is teasing a sequel with a new lead.
After it was first spotted airing in Australia, Sony has formally announced its new live action advertising campaign for the PlayStation 5, and it may have given a big hint about a brand new game.
Aside from highlighting current and upcoming PlayStation 5 titles, such as God Of War Ragnarök and Spider-Man 2, there are some blink and you’ll miss it references to other games, such as Stray and Returnal.
However, there are now suspicions that the advert has teased something entirely new: a new Uncharted sequel.
Amidst the montage of quick fire clips, you can spot footage of a young woman inside what looks like an ancient temple, carrying a flaming torch and blowing dust off an artefact.
Whatever the game is it doesn’t seem to be from Sony’s current line-up, and it’s not Spider-Man 2 or Wolverine, so the natural assumption is that this is a new game that the company hasn’t announced yet.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which was remastered for the PlayStation 5 last year, did have two female leads but, even from these brief clips, you can tell the woman doesn’t resemble either of them.
As such, the popular theory is that who we’re seeing is Cassie Drake, Nathan’s daughter who appears at the very end of Uncharted 4.
The ad is focused on games that are available for the PlayStation 5 now or are due this year, so Spider-Man 2 is featured but not Wolverine. From that you might infer that whatever this secret game is, it’s also due out this year.
Developer Naughty Dog did say recently that it was done with the series, but that doesn’t mean another studio can’t take over and make an Uncharted 5.
Last month, one insider claimed this to be precisely the case and, previous to that, Days Gone studio Sony Bend was reportedly working on the series.
Not to mention that last year Naughty Dog was advertising for people to work on ‘building future teams for not only new titles but for the legacy of Uncharted’, implying it will remain involved with the series in some capacity.
As for when the game will be formally announced, that’s harder to guess. Sony hasn’t been involved in E3 for several years now and there have been no solid rumours yet on when the next State of Play will be (and even then it’ll probably be focused on PlayStation VR2).

In the meantime, Sony’s Live from PS5 campaign is extending to real world locations. Right now, in London’s South Bank, you can find Kratos’ axe embedded in the ground. It’ll only be there for today and tomorrow so, if you want a photo with it, best get down there ASAP.
Sony has more of these ‘experiential activations’ planned for other places worldwide. It hasn’t confirmed any other examples but, if the new ad is anything to go by, don’t be surprised if giant spider webs randomly pop up somewhere.
