Infinity Pool is one of this year’s most talked about movies, with some viewers saying it made them feel like they might vomit and others straight up walking out of cinemas.

The flick is writer-director Brandon Cronenberg’s third film and stars Alexander Skarsgård and Mia Goth, but until its release not much was known about the plot.

Well, last month film goers were able to wrap their eyeballs around the film and reviews range from ‘it is grotesque, surreal and beyond f****d up’ to ‘this film is sick and disturbing’. Oh, and there’s also a scene that involves Skarsgård being breastfed by Goth’s character.

It won’t come as a surprise, then, to hear that Infinity Pool isn’t for the faint of heart. So, buckle up, because we’re about to tell you everything you need to know about the film.

First thing’s first, when is it released in the UK? Unfortunately, although Infinity Pool hit cinemas last month across the pond, it’s not released here until March 24.

While it’s release on these fair shores is still a way off, the movie sounds as though it’s totally worth the wait.

The plot follows a wealthy couple (Skarsgård’s James and Cleopatra Coleman’s Em Foster) who jet off on holiday to a remote island resort.

James, an author, is seeking inspiration for his second book but before long happens across another couple vacationing on the island – Goth’s Gabi Bauer and Jalil Lespert’s Alban Bauer.

Gabi and Alban tell James they’re fans of his work and invite him and Em on a day trip.

As it turns out, the resort is located on a totalitarian island and guests aren’t meant to venture beyond the retreat’s gates.

But they do, and James and Em’s holiday takes a traumatising turn when they’re arrested following an accident, with the former being awoken by officers banging on his door with an arrest warrant.

James’ crimes are punishable by death, however the author is told that he can avoid execution by coughing up enough money to have a clone of himself made, which would be killed in his place. Unsurprisingly, chaos ensues.

Just saw “Infinity Pool” this film is sick, disturbing, & exactly what I wanted to watch. Definitely carries the Cronenberg torch. pic.twitter.com/pnnvTQrJdi

Of the story, Cronenberg told Den of Geek: ‘It started with a short story I was writing, that just essentially was the first execution scene.

‘So it started with the idea of doubling, and a double of yourself being executed and watching that execution.

‘Then when I expanded it, I started to think about some experiences I had a number of years ago that partly informed the setting.’

And as for *that* breastfeeding scene? It’s just one of the shockingly graphic moments in Infinity Pool (the flick’s chockablock with bodily fluids) but Skarsgård himself did admit filming such a scene was a first for him.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, he said of his latest role: ‘Fighting a naked version of myself to the death and then being breastfed by Mia, that’s not something you get to do very often as an actor.’

Suffice to say, we can’t wait to check this film out. Roll on March.
