Jim Ross has given a ‘positive’ health update on Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler’ but insisted he needs everyone’s ‘thoughts and prayers’.

The legendary commentator – who forged one of the most iconic partnerships in WWE history with his fellow announcer thanks to their work together in the famed Attitude Era – has spoken to the Hall of Famer after he was rushed to hospital after reportedly suffering a stroke on Monday.

Taking to Twitter, JR wrote ‘I spoke very briefly with ⁦@JerryLawler⁩ tonight. He’s obviously weak but I could understand his affected speech. Jerry’s prognosis is positive but he needs all our thoughts and prayers. #LoveYaKing’

As reported by Florida TV station Action News 5, the 73-year-old wrestler was taken ill at his home in Fort Myers, Florida and rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery.

There had been reports Lawler was paralysed and unable to speak following the incident, and fellow star Dutch Mantel shared a positive update with fans on Tuesday after the news broke.

He tweeted: ‘LAWLER experienced paralysis on his right side immediately following the stroke. Latest news has reported that he has regained partial use of his arm. His speech is still affected but that takes a bit more time. But he’s improving.’

Lawler has dealt with heart issues in the past and previously suffered a stroke in 2018, as well as suffering cardiac arrest while commentating live on air during an episode of WWE Raw in 2012, which nearly cost him his life.

He had wrestled in a tag team match earlier in the night.

Most recently, he was appeared as part of the panel for WWE’s Kickoff show before the Royal Rumble late last month, but it’s been some time since he was a regular fixture on the Raw commentary team.

He has also continued to wrestle into his 70s, including 10 matches in 2022, while he even laced up his boots for a bout just last month.

On January 21, he appeared in a winning effort against the Beer City Bruiser for AML Wrestling in North Carolina.
