I was so excited to try on wedding dresses but nothing fit – then the assistant said I wasn’t ‘that big’ & I broke a zip

A BRIDE-TO-BE has recalled how her confidence was shot when she went to try on wedding dresses but was too big to fit into any of them.

Alison took to TikTok to share a video of herself in the wedding dress shop, as she wrote: “The circus of trying on wedding dresses when you are not sample size.”

She couldn’t bend down any further than this in this long-sleeved dresstiktok/@alisonhopemurray

Her feelings about this dress were clear to see on her facetiktok/@alisonhopemurray

But she hated the fact that she had to be pinned into ittiktok/@alisonhopemurray

And she ended up breaking the zip on this dresstiktok/@alisonhopemurray

Over a snap of herself looking disappointed, she added: “The realisation that I won’t be able to try anything on in my size.”

The wedding dress shop assistant then told Alison: “Sorry you’re not even that big”.

Things went from bad to worse when the zip on another dress broke.

And then when she tried on a gorgeous plunging dress, which she “quite liked”, she had to be “pinned in with a weird scrap of fabric” so that she didn’t “break another zip”.

“RIP my confidence,” Alison said.

Over a picture of herself wearing a long-sleeved fitted gown, she added: “This is how far I could bend in this one… Weird scrap of fabric out of shot.”

She concluded her video with footage of herself wearing an off-the-shoulder dress, which looked fantastic.

However, she said that the detachable sleeves off the dress had to be “removed and joined together to make one massive sleeve for one arm instead of two”.

“True story,” Alison captioned the video.

“We can laugh about it now but this experience really did a number on me.”

“So unprofessional to only carry sample sizings in a store,” one person commented on the video.

“So sorry you felt low during what should have been a happy experience!!”

“Completely agree but thank you!” Alison replied.

“This was my wedding dress shopping experience when I’m a UK size 12/14 – soul destroying and not what I’d dreamed of,” another added.

As a third wrote: “I left a store bawling bc the lady looked at size 10, 25 year old me and told me I was too fat for the dresses.”
