Revered lyricist Matty Healy has shared his musings about women ‘doing their periods.’

The 1975 frontman, 33, appeared on a new episode of The Adam Friedland Show podcast with long-time friends Adam and fellow comedian Nick Mullen, when he made the comments.

Fans tuned in to the podcast, known for its crude humour, in the hopes of potentially hearing updates on The 1975, but were left disappointed at what some labeled ‘homophobic’ and ‘misogynistic’ comments, including Matty calling Harry Styles a ‘queerbaiter’.

Elsewhere in the podcast, the hosts and singer recalled a story where a group of women’s ‘jam’ was Michael Jackson’s track Liberian Girl, with the hosts saying it was ‘gay’ and ‘annoying’ that women always have ‘things’.

The US comedian said: ‘If four women move in together and they’ve never met, within one week they have a f*ing choreography.’

To which award-winning songwriter Matty added: ‘And they’re all doing their periods at the same time. Like what is that?’

Thus began a discussion about it being ‘the tides and the moon in their p***ies,’ with one of the hosts saying: ‘That’s so funny that they get f***ed up by the moon, meanwhile we went there.

And as if the conversation couldn’t sound more 14-year-old schoolboy, the conversation then turned to whether it would be possible to ‘take a s**t on the moon.’

The idea of period syncing, though anecdotally common, is essentially a myth, with scientists still without a definitive answer as to whether or not it is a real thing.

And in 2017, a major University of Oxford study, carried out by period tracking app Clue, found that it was ‘very unlikely’ to be a real phenomenon.

As for the men’s insistence that period syncing is something to do with the moon, that comes from the fact that most women’s menstrual cycles align with the lunar cycle, in that it averages 29.5 days.

Later in the podcast, Matty told a story of a musician he used to look up to sliding into women’s DMs and being rejected, saying it was ‘sad’ when he used to be able to ‘get p***y.’

‘When you become a guy that wants to get p***y its just so sad,’ he said.

‘When you go from a guy who gets p***y and you get used to it, and then it dries up and you continue to try and find it, it’s so not a good vibe.’
