In 2020, Rousteing suffered horrific burns across his body after a fireplace exploded at his home.

His body was at one point engulfed in flames, and despite jumping into a swimming pool and showering with the view of extinguishing himself, he continued to suffer severe burning sensations all over his body.

He only revealed the incident and the injuries he suffered in October 2021, after hiding his injuries using specially designed costumes.

He was rushed to Saint-Louis hospital in Paris after the incident.

Has Oliver Rousteing fully recovered from his accident?

He has claimed that the injuries he suffered across his body has inspired some of his work.

Recalling the recovery process to Vogue, Rousteing said his daily shower became “absolute torture” and anything that touched his skin, including the hospital gowns or bath towels, “hurt so much it took all [his] concentration not to cry or scream”.

Some of his work after the incident included outfits made out of gauze and dressings.

After extensive treatment, he has been able to continue his career and takes pride in the scars he suffered.

He said in an Instagram post in 2021: “To be honest I’m not really sure why I was so ashamed, maybe this obsession with perfection that fashion is known for and my own insecurities…

He continued by describing social media as a place helps people to “create our own special narrative that avoids what we do not wish to see or show.”

“Today, I feel so free, so good and so lucky. I’m beginning a new chapter with a smile on my face and a heart full of gratitude,” Rousteing wrote, reminding followers that “there is always the sun after the storm.”

He has been head designer of French design house Balmain since 2011.
