A retro enemy that’s barely appeared since the original Legend Of Zelda has been spotted in Tears Of The Kingdom’s newest trailer.

It was already widely speculated that The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom would feature series villain Ganondorf as the main antagonist, with the latest trailer including what is most likely voiced dialogue from the King of Evil himself.

It makes perfect sense for Ganondorf to appear since his more bestial alter ego, Ganon, served as the final boss of The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild.

However, eagle eyed fans who’ve been poring over the newest trailer believe they’ve spotted another classic Zelda enemy that has rarely been seen since the very first game in 1987: Gleeok.

It’s a bit hard to make out but during the early portions of the newest trailer, but at about the 30 second mark, you can see what looks like a three-headed dragon standing on a bridge, with each of its heads appearing to be alight with flames.

While it could be a brand new enemy altogether, its similarities to Gleeok have fans thinking that it’s instead a new iteration of the monster. It’s certainly plausible given Breath Of The Wild went back to use the original game as its primary influence, in terms of both gameplay and enemies.

Gleeok has since appeared in a couple other Zelda games (the most recent being 2007’s The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass), but all its subsequent appearances were with only two heads, making its reappearance here something of a return to form.

I hope that was a Gleeok on that one bridge in the trailer. pic.twitter.com/FI6Y6HdZbE

If that is Gleeok chilling on that bridge I will cry for a year

So are we all just going to ignore Gleeok chilling on the Bridge of Hylia, or…? #totk #Zelda

It may not be the only returning enemy either. In the same trailer at the 56 second mark, you can see a skeleton-like monster rise from the ground, which many are assuming to be Tears Of The Kingdom’s take on a ReDead, a zombie creature that debuted in The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time.

Yea that’s DEFINTELY a ReDead LMAO pic.twitter.com/aXtE6Ke70e

No, but I’m seriously loving the dark vibe Tears of the Kingdom has going on! If that’s ReDead’s I see, then I AM HYPED. I have been waiting years for them to pop up again!

Okay the more I look into tears of the kingdom and analyze stuff the more excited I get, like there is gleeok and redeads, and if there is ganondorf, I’m sure he’ll have some darknuts or iron knuckles as his buds

There’s a Redead in the new Zelda trailer…. There’s a Redead in the new Zelda trailer….

While these throwbacks seem fairly clearcut, there have been other fan theories in about other major Zelda villains making a comeback, such as Zant from Zelda: Twilight Princess and Vaati from Zelda: The Minish Cap.

Given how secretive Nintendo is being in regards to Tears Of The Kingdom, it’s impossible to tell how much potential fan service could be included.

With any luck, the company will put out a detailed look at the game, its structure, and its mechanics ahead of its May launch, perhaps even with a dedicated Nintendo Direct sometime in the next couple of months.

The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom launches for Nintendo Switch on May 12.
