Peaky Blinders could be returning to Birmingham once more, but this time around fans can find themselves at the centre of crimes, with plans for a theme park on the horizon.

Running for six seasons between 2013 and 2022, the period crime drama followed the exploits of the Peaky Blinders crime gang in the direct aftermath of the First World War.

The ensemble cast was led by Cillian Murphy, who played Tommy Shelby, while others included the late Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson and Sophie Rundle, as well as Paddy Considine, Adrien Brody, Aidan Gillen, Anya Taylor-Joy and Sam Claflin.

Now the series looks to be the inspiration for a tourism attraction in its home city.

With six seasons of the show and now a movie on the way, bosses at the Visit Birmingham tourism organisation are said to be considering capitalising on the popularity of the show with a theme park.

‘This may sound like a crazy idea but Peaky Blinders was such a phenomenon and it’s reaped huge rewards for Britain,’ a TV insider has said.

‘Although the show was ultra- violent, it also showcased our industrial past, not to mention a whole new wave of fashion and haircuts.

‘So it’s actually a no-brainer for tourism chiefs keen to get the maximum draw and make the most of a TV show that was an international hit,’ they said to The Sun.

It wouldn’t be the first time the show spurned a tourist attraction, after live theatrical experience The Rise was released.

Being staged in Camden, the 360-degree theatre show is set in the world of Peaky Blinders and follows ‘the rise in fortune of Tommy Shelby and his family as the unfolding narrative and live actors place the audience right at the heart of the Shelby Company’.

Last year creator Steven Knight spoke about how the upcoming film, due for release within the next few years, would also feature fan favourites, as well as new faces.

He had previously said he would also love to get Vicky McClure involved and would ‘put her in the film if she’ll do it’.

Metro.co.uk has contacted the BBC and Visit Birmingham for comment.

Peaky Blinders is available to stream on BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
