Judd Apatow well and truly roasted Tom Cruise for his height during his Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards monologue last night.
The 55-year-old Anchorman producer, who also happens to be only two inches taller than Tom, 60, joked that the Hollywood icon’s dangerous film stunts – which he famously performs himself – are all a ploy to distract from his 5ft7 height – ouch.
He quipped: ‘The visual effects in [Top Gun:] Maverick were so top-notch I couldn’t even see the stack of phone books Tom Cruise sat on to reach the flight controls.
‘That’s why he’s always jumping out of tall buildings because you can’t tell how short he is from a 100-story building. That’s why when he’s standing on a wing of an airplane he’s always alone, he doesn’t want anyone there next to him for scale.’
But Judd didn’t stop there, as he continued: ‘Tom is not fine, something is wrong right now. Someone needs to explain something to him called CGI — you don’t need to do the stunts, they look exactly the same when you do them on the green screen. You’re 60, calm down.’
The Knocked Up producer also blasted Tom’s close relationship with the Church of Scientology, as he compared the Top Gun star’s stunts to ‘an ad’ for the religious movement, which believes humans are immortal, spiritual beings that reside in bodies.

‘I mean, is that in Dianetics because there’s nothing about jumping off a cliff in the Torah?’ Judd continued.
‘The only thing he seems to be afraid of is co parenting and antidepressants. Do you think if Tom Cruise took antidepressants he’d be like, “I’m not jumping off of a f** motorcycle on a cliff? Why do I even work, I’m rich.”’
This was Judd’s fourth time hosting the 75th annual ceremony, in which Steven Spielberg was pipped to the top ‘outstanding directorial achievement’ prize by Everything Everywhere All at Once helmers Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert,
This comes after director Steven, who poured his soul out in his recent film The Fabelmans, applauded the Mission Impossible star for saving ‘Hollywood’s ass’ through Top Gun: Maverick, a film which he said ‘might have saved the entire theatrical industry’.
The two legends previously worked together on Minority Report and War of the Worlds.
The Jerry Maguire actor is yet to respond to last night’s roasting, but we really hope he does.
