Sales figures for Elden Ring have hit a new milestone, as publisher Bandai Namco hints about DLC but still doesn’t announce it.

In just a few days, it’ll be Elden Ring’s first anniversary and while FromSoftware and Bandai Namco still haven’t announced any DLC expansions for it, it’s safe to say that the game’s popularity certainly justifies it.

Its launch was already impressive, with Elden Ring pushing 12 million copies in just a few weeks, making it one of the biggest launches of last year.

Now, just ahead of the anniversary, the publisher has announced that worldwide sales have surpassed 20 million. This includes both physical and digital sales across all available platforms, including Steam.

For comparison’s sake, the entire Dark Souls series had sold 27 million copies by 2020, and Elden Ring has nearly caught up to that figure all on its own.

While Bandai Namco doesn’t say as much, some of these sales can be chalked up to Elden Ring winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards this past December, as well as a number of other high profile rewards.

Previously, US chart tracker the NPD had suggested that Elden Ring had made it into the top 10 bestselling games of all time, although they later retracted this and claimed they’d made a mistake.

For comparison’s sake Red Dead Redemption 2, one of the most successful, primarily single-player, games of all time has sold around 50 million copies, The Witcher 3 has reached 40 million, the single format Zelda: Breath Of The Wild has sold over 30 million, and the 2018 reboot of God Of War 23 million.

So, what comes next for Elden Ring? The obvious answer is DLC and while there’ve been no formal announcements, director Hidetaka Miyazaki certainly hinted at more to come during his Game of the Year acceptance speech, saying he had ‘several more things we want to do’ with the game.

Today’s announcement from Bandai Namco only adds more fuel to the fire, as it reads: ‘The companies would like to thank everyone who has played this game from the bottom of their hearts, and will continue to develop various ways for the fans to enjoy the world of Elden Ring in the future.’

Elden Ring is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
